Chernivtsi Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics Angelholm - History of the center

Chernivtsi Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics (Swedish-Ukrainian Medical Center "Angelholm") was organized in 1998 at the initiative of experts from the Bukovinian Medical Academy, representatives of the Swedish charity "Riverside" and orthopedic surgeons from Engelholm (Sweden). The main purpose of the Center was the widespread introduction of modern methods of treatment of orthopedic diseases in medical practice in Ukraine, providing opportunities for diagnosis and treatment of orthopedic diseases in accordance with modern world standards.

Today, this medical institution is a leader in the field of hip and knee arthroplasty. It was here, for the first time in Ukraine, that artificial knee and hip joints of the company "Stryker" - the world leader in orthopedics and superficial joints of the famous company "De Puy" were implanted. And in 2009, the clinic's surgeons, led by the chief physician, Honored Physician of Ukraine, endoprosthesis expert, Candidate of Medical Sciences Yaroslav Vasylchyshyn, implanted an artificial joint of the Swiss company "SULZER". The cementless leg of this "Zweimuller" joint has become legendary in orthopedics and today is the "gold standard" of cementless fixation of an artificial implant.

Patients who apply to the Swedish-Ukrainian medical center "Angelholm" from the first steps of their presence are surrounded by attention and professional care. Complete examination of the patient: modern laboratory diagnostics with the whole arsenal of clinical examinations is provided by the clinic partners of the German-Ukrainian laboratory "Bukintermed" (all methods of laboratory diagnostics within one hour). During the hospital stay, the clinic provides the patient with quality medicines, highly qualified care, and a complete balanced diet.

Special surgical techniques introduced by Swedish colleagues (Professors Bengt Sturessen, Herbert Fransen and Lars Wolfram) allowed the implantation of artificial joints in patients who were denied surgery in other clinics: patients with hemophilia, one with kidney, as well as patients who have suffered three myocardial infarctions and coronary artery bypass graft surgery in the past. The oldest operated patient was 99 years old, and the youngest - 14 years old. Lightning operative equipment, which is owned by the center's specialists, provides minimal blood loss and the duration of surgery is reduced to 30-45 minutes. The next day after the operation, patients walk on their own, stepping on the operated leg.

Orthopedic surgery, especially artificial joint implant surgery, requires sterile air in the operating room to prevent the risk of infection of the tissues around the joint, which leads to instability and loosening of the implant. To achieve world-class conditions, the operating room at Angelholm Medical Center is equipped with a unique air sterilization ventilation system from Airsonett (Sweden), which cleans the air so that there is not a single microparticle of dust in the air above the operating table and surgical team. , which is a carrier of microorganisms). Thanks to the unique air purification system in the operating room, there is no risk of suppuration of wounds after surgery, which leads to excellent results of surgical interventions.

Today, the range of services provided by the Swedish-Ukrainian medical center "Angelholm" is fundamentally increased - it is diagnostics, surgery, rehabilitation and outpatient treatment.

The clinic specializes in primary and revision knee and hip arthroplasty. Implantation of artificial joints is the only way to avoid disability in severe diseases and disorders of the musculoskeletal system. For the first time in Ukraine, we have implanted an artificial knee joint of the Scorpio model and a hip joint of the Exeter concern of the Stryker concern, as well as the ASR key joint of the DePuy company, which is confirmed by the relevant certificates. Endoprosthesis operations are performed with a record short duration (implantation of the hip joint - 30-60 minutes, knee - 40-70 minutes). Operations are performed by experienced surgeons.

Surgical treatment of fractures - one of the leading activities of the Swedish-Ukrainian center "Angelholm" - is carried out using modern techniques. Research and clinical practice in recent decades have strongly shown that the use of metal intramedullary (intraosseous) fixators is one of the most promising methods for the treatment of severe fractures and their consequences. Director of the clinic, Honored Doctor of Ukraine, Academician of the UNP Academy of Sciences, Professor IM Rublenyk in the 1970s developed and patented a unique method of treatment of large tubular cysts ok, which has no analogues in world medical practice.

In the treatment of intervertebral hernias, the clinic's specialists use effective operative and non-operative methods:

• catheter - method (epidural adhesiolysis) - an effective non-surgical method of treatment that allows you to get rid of pain and cure by bringing the catheter (without skin incision) into the herniated disc
• Microsurgical decompression of the spine consists in releasing the nerve from pressure and removing the hernia surgically.
• stabilizing operations on the spine are performed in case of instability or displacement of the vertebrae (listesis), when there is a narrowing of the spinal canal compression of individual nerves or with significant back pain
• Percutaneous nucleotomy is a safe low-trauma surgical treatment for intervertebral disc herniation
• endoscopic spine surgery - surgical treatment of hernias, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis and other spinal problems

The advantages of such methods are low trauma, reliability and high treatment results.

Arthroscopic surgery and ligament plastics are widely used in the medical practice of the Swedish-Ukrainian Medical Center "Angelholm" in the treatment of diseases of the knee joint. Arthroscopy is a medical-diagnostic method that is characterized by minimal trauma and high accuracy of diagnosis. During the operation, the surgeon examines in detail the internal joint structures (cartilage, ligaments, etc.), finds damage and conducts the necessary treatment.

In addition to the above, Angelholm also performs other types of orthopedic operations:

• Limit axis and length correction
• treatment of "false" joints
• corrective operations for shin and foot deformities
• surgical treatment of benign tumors of bones and joints.

All parts of the technological chain of operations have been thoroughly developed, which has significantly improved the quality and minimized the duration of surgical interventions.

The center performs membrane plasmapheresis - a highly effective method of blood purification at the cellular level in case of intoxication, allergies of various origins, autoimmune and nervous diseases, rheumatism, peritonitis, toxicosis of pregnant women, etc.

In 2012, the Department of Interventional Cardiology was opened and successfully operates at the Swedish-Ukrainian Medical Center "Angelholm". Thanks to the cooperation of Swedish and German specialists with cardiologists of the center and the installation of a new angiograph, it became possible to perform coronary angiography and stenting of coronary vessels of the heart (both routinely and urgently) in Chernivtsi.

In 2014, the detoxification and proctology departments began their work.
