- Arthroscopic meniscus resection

Meniscal rupture is the most common and relatively minor knee injury. For its occurrence, sometimes even a minor injury is enough, often with a combination of bending and rotation. Typical examples are hitting the ball with a brush, getting up from a squat, a sharp turn when walking or running.

Typical meniscus rupture with dislocation of the "funnel handle" type on the diagram and through the arthroscope

Signs of meniscus rupture - sudden prickly pain in the knee with a certain movement, accompanied by a feeling of jumping, clicking, blocking; sudden appearance of limitations in bending or unbending the knee; swelling in the knee. Magnetic resonance imaging is performed to confirm the diagnosis.

If such episodes recur, surgery to remove the torn part of the meniscus may be necessary. This is a simple and safe operation, which is performed through skin punctures under the control of an arthroscope - a thin fiber-optic probe with a diameter of about 0.5 cm, to which a video camera and light source are connected.

Under the control of the video image on the monitor, the torn part of the meniscus is cut off and removed.

After the operation in a few hours you can get up on the operated leg, the next day - return home , and in 10-14 days - to go to work. After removing part of the meniscus, the function of the knee is fully restored - you can do physical work, sports.
